ICA Miami Is the Best Free Museum in Miami, and It's Not Close

One of the best museums in Miami costs exactly zero dollars. The Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami sits in the middle of the Design District, shows world-class contemporary art, and has been free to everyone since day one. It is my favorite reminder that a great art day in Miami does not need a budget.

The quick take: ICA Miami at 61 NE 41st Street is always free, open Wednesday through Sunday from 11am to 6pm, and worth a visit every time the exhibitions rotate. Reserve a free ticket online before you go.

Watch: My ICA Visit

I filmed this during the Olga de Amaral retrospective, a Fondation Cartier collaboration that brought together more than 50 works spanning six decades of the Colombian artist's shimmering woven sculptures. That show has since closed, but it captures what ICA does: exhibitions you would expect to pay big-city museum prices for, free.

Why ICA Miami Is Worth Your Weekend

ICA Miami focuses on the most innovative contemporary art of our time, with a permanent collection, rotating exhibitions across three floors, and a sculpture garden that makes a gorgeous pause between galleries. Because it sits in the Design District, you can pair it with window shopping, public art, and some of the best people watching in Miami.
