Books & Books, the Coral Gables Art Cinema and the Coral Gables Museum coordinate a day of fun activities every second Saturday of every month. Today, Books & Books kicked the day off with their weekly Saturday Story Time for kids at 10am. Today’s story time was followed by shamrock themed arts and crafts commemorating St. Patrick’s Day. If you missed today’s Story Time don’t fret. You can bring your kids to Story Time every Saturday morning at 10am. Books & Books is located at 265 Aragon Avenue in Coral Gables. booksandbooks.com
At 11am Family Day continued at the Coral Gables Art Cinema with the showing of the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. In this whimsical British musical film, director Ken Hughes spins Ian Fleming’s imaginative novel into an even more wondrous, fantastical tale that was later adapted for the Broadway stage. The Coral Gables Art Cinema is located at 260 Aragon Avenue. gablescinema.com

From 2pm through 4pm the Coral Gables Museum had a variety of events. They held a gallery scavenger hunt with sugary prizes for winners and a bicycle design activity. During the scavenger hunt, I met Tessie Globe, one of the artists participating in the ARTcycle 2015: Cyclists Matter exhibit.
At 3pm Our Pride Academy performed a piece from Willy Wonka as a unified theater production between Our Pride Academy and Area Stage. I had the opportunity to talk to Rebecca Cartaya, the Director of Visual Performing Arts at Our Pride Academy who gave me a little bit of insight into the production. The Unified Theater uses actors with developed mental disabilities and unified partners that are typically developing high school and junior high students. They work together and they perform a show. The students from Our Pride Academy have the lead roles and the other students are there to provide vocal support. Visit ourprideacademy.org to find out more information about Our Pride Academy.
