1986 Steak House Brings Argentine Fire to Coconut Grove

Coconut Grove got a serious new steakhouse, and it runs on nothing but salt and fire. 1986 Steak House opened near the Mayfair this spring, and it is already one of my favorite new spots in Miami.

The quick take: Argentine live-fire cooking by Chef Marcelo Daguerre, best-in-class cuts from Argentina, the U.S. and Japan, a 200-bottle wine list, and a cocktail menu built by Tres Monos, ranked the number 1 bar in South America. The name is a wink to Argentina's legendary 1986, and the food lives up to it.

Why 1986 Is Different

The concept at 1986 Steak House is confidence: Executive Chef Marcelo Daguerre has nearly two decades of live-fire expertise, and he cooks premium cuts on a parrilla with nothing but salt and flame. No crusts, no gimmicks, just meat treated with respect.

The drinks side is just as stacked. The wine list runs about 200 bottles, including selections from the Cremasco family's own Mendoza winery, and the cocktail program comes from Tres Monos in Buenos Aires, ranked number 1 in South America and number 10 in the world by The World's 50 Best Bars.
